Presidental elections 2005
just read that we don't need to elect president anymore this year because it will be a walk-over. No eligible competitors - they have rejected the other 3 candidates; so our dear mr nathan will continue to serve for another 6 years.Which brings me to wonder- is Singapore really so small that we can't find eligible candidates to run for the post. Certainly this person will need a certain calibre but i am sure such people exist; as to whether they are interested in running is another story though.
But of course if there is an election indeed this coming 27 Aug, i guess my vote will be pretty obvious... certainly i will vote for someone i know lah. But competition is always good right? Like what mr nathan has said himself that he is hoping for competitors to show that he really IS the man who is elected by the people. I reckon he can't fulfill his wish/dream anymore ever again in this lifetime cos i dun think he will run for another 6 years in 2011.
Well the most quoted disadvantage for this walk-over to happen would be no public holiday for all... not going to make any differences to my life since i am on call that day and we don't have off-in-lieu. My only concern is that hopefully people will not turn to hospital and get themselves admitted when they can't go for their one-day break.
Advantages- hassle of going to the polling station and wait for your turn to vote; dun need to change the photos of president and his wife in the banks and other governmental offices.
