Gong Xi Fa Cai!
A really fruitful day indeed cos we managed to visit ALL our essential relatives in one day! this never happened in my life before as far as i can remember - it is usually divided among the 2 days. well so here i am, feeling tired, sleepy, dry and sticky now after touring singapore.Actually there are only 4 essential places to visit, cos my extended family is quite small; and we visit mainly the maternal side. my mum is the youngest so we had to be the one moving around. reason why we squeeze all visits to one day is because i have to work tomorrow (i am on call sadly..), and i am the chauffeur.
The day began quite late cos i woke up quite late at 10am - yup.. this is my only off day through this 4-day festive/weekend break, so i have to make full use of it - to wake up seeing the bright sunlight. furthermore i only slept at 5am yesterday.
1st place- first uncle.
kind of a bore. simply because there are only one couple in the house and i dun really have much to talk to them. my parents did the job of socialising, while me and my sister watched tv and ate titbits. everything seemed the same as last year, except that my uncle has developed poor mobility and is now on madopar. and his ang bao has shrunken, probably most of them went to his medical bills.
2nd place- third uncle.
i used to like coming here becos they have my favourite prawn crackers (not that i can't afford it, just that i dun buy it that often). the only problem is his wife is cantonese and most of the times, inevitably, she will start to communicate with me in cantonese, which, i can only reply by smiling and nodding, just like what i did to some of my patients. anyway, having said that, they are very hospitable and never failed to offer food (as in lunch/dinner)- which is great especially when it's hard to find food outside during cny. And as a bonus, we happened to meet my 2 (out of 3) cousins (their children who were married and came back to visit their parents).
3rd place- second uncle.
i like coming to this place cos it is always so bustling and homely. also, there are cousins who are closer to my age so there isn't any generation gap. but this time round i din manage to talk to them cos everyone is too busy playing with the new kids in the family. they are very hospitable too and we have dinner here. when it comes to food, i am usually not too modest when people offer, especially when i am fairly hungry. and all their children were around too!
4th place- aunt.
it was already dark when we reached the place. and come to think of it, i haven't visited my aunt for quite a while already. she stays in the city area, so it is quite difficult to avoid the crowd during festive season. We used to visit this place very regularly until dunno what happened.
so with that, i have collected most of my ang baos already.
