One month
Recently gotten the CD compliation of photographs and video clips that we took during our 4-month course. And yes, one month has already passed since the day we graduated and dined in! And i haven't even settled well yet in this new environment (well actually not really a new environment lah, i just shifted from block 721 level 9 to block 701 level 4).
Was looking through the photos just now... and wow we have really been through quite a lot of shit. Kind of nostalgic, yet dun desire to live it once more. Missed some of those times out there... at least we dun have to worry about commitments then. Haven't watched the video clips yet though...
Quite a fruitful day today- got my ISAC card, got my MPS, got my eggs and bread and zion prawn mee =).

I don't wanna lose you
I don't wanna use you
just to have somebody by my side
And I don't wanna hate you
I don't wanna take you
But I don't wanna be the one to cry
That don't really matter to anyone, anymore
But like a fool I keep losing my place
And I keep seeing you walk through that door
But there's a danger in loving somebody too much
And its sad when you know it's your heart you can't trust
There's a reason why people don't stay where they are
Baby sometimes love just ain't enough
Now I could never change you
I don't wanna blame you
Baby you don't have to take the fall
Yes I may have hurt you
But I did not desert you
Maybe I just want to have it all
It makes a sound like thunder
It makes me feel like rain
And like a fool who will never see the truth
I keep thinking something's gonna change
But there's a danger in loving somebody too much
And its sad when you know it's your heart you can't trust
There's a reason why people don't stay where they are
Baby sometimes love just ain't enough
And there's no way home
when it's late at night and you're all alone
Are there things that you wanted to say
Do you feel me beside you in your bed
there beside you where I used to lay
And there's a Danger in Loving somebody too much
And it's sad when you know it's your heart they can't touch
There's a reason why people don't stay who they are
Cause baby sometimes love just ain't enough
Baby sometimes love just ain't enough

was browsing through the various blogs and discover this cbox program. something like a shout-out box. just added one to my blog (it is on the right side bar), though i doubt it will be of much use since not a lot of people know about the existence of this blog... =p

PDA and broadband
I went to the IT show again today with determination to buy. And as predicted, it was very crowded!! I tried to reach there at 12 pm (the opening time) but due to unforeseen circumstances, i was there only at 1 plus. Anyway, the aims are accomplished. I sign myself up for singnet broadband- quite a good bargain $47 per month for 3MB ps though need to sign for 2 years. In fact, i actually have to join quite a long queue for it just to sign up... Secondly, i got a PDA (eventually). Below is an email i wrote for a friend who is also keen to buy but too lazy to do research =)
*
PDA got OS (the one with handphone in built), palm and pocket PC.
Location at IT show:
Palm- level 6 on your left (orange signboard)
HP Pocket PC: level 4 in the middle/right (got many booths)
Things to look out for in PDA:
- size
most of them are quite comparable. the smaller ones have other disadvantages, so i din even consider.
- designHP pocket pc looks quite cool and sleek (iPAQ 1950), i would have bought it but it has no bluetooth and difficult to share program. Palm generally looks the same- rectangularish; either silver or black.
- price
my personal budget is around 500 bucks, and i kept to it. i guess an acceptable price is around 350 to 600. but if u earn more and can afford it, then Palm LifeDrive is quite good (fast and high memory capacity)
- weight
generally weighs around 120g to 160g. shouldn't be too big a factor.
- battery life
i think for tungsten series (E2, E3, T5), battery may run out quite fast. but we dun really use it continuously, so i guess it's alrite.
- other functions and properties
this is a very impt factor and it includes: bluetooth (which enable u to exchange/share programs between friends and PDA--computer), Wi-fi (wireless network for internet access), types of cards used (SD usually), memory (tungsten has very low memory like 32MB only, TX has 128MB, LifeDrive has an amazing 4 GB), processor speed (i think as long as it is above 300MHz then good enuff), screen (TX has a big screen), resolution (most are 320x320 with 32000 -64000bits), camera, software (mp3 player/email outlook/word processors) etc...and of course in IT fair, u look for gimmicks and freebies too.
PALM:
Model (price after discount):
1) TX (which is the one i bought) - cost $499
2) Tungsten E2 - cost $329
3) LifeDrive - cost $649
Advantages:
there were more medical programs running on palm, and more pple has palm, so can exchange more prgrams with each otherDisadvantages:
runs with a palm system, unlike pocket pc which runs on window (same as your win XP). but i heard it's quite easy to use too.
Pocket PC (mainly HP series):
Model
1) iPAQ rx1950 ($599) - promotion item; has Wi-fi but no bluetooth, nice design, free 1GB SD card/pouch/photo kit
2) hx2190 ($599) - has bluetooth but no Wi-fi
3) hx2490 ($899)- has both bluetooth and wi-fi. but i think it's too expensive for a PDA
Advantages:
runs on a window platform; nice looking; and HP is supposed to be the best brand for PDA
Disadvantage:
steep price; difficult to share programs with peers.
So for me, since i am buying mainly for medical use, i choose a palm. i choose TX because it is within my budget, looks cool, has big screen, has both bluetooth and Wi-fi. I think the following can be considered:
1) palm TX
2) palm Tungsten E2 (cheap- 329 bucks; but 200MHz speed and 32MB memory)
3) palm Lifedrive ( fast 416MHz, huge memory 4GB, has both bluetooth and wi-fi BUT expensive 649 bucks-- i will buy this if i have lots of $$)
4) HP rx1950 (affordable 599 and nice design; but no bluetooth/difficult to share program)

IT show
IT show @ suntec from 9/3/2006 to 12/3/2006.
Usually on the last day, there will be a lot of offers and giveaways, but unfortunately i happen to be on call that day =( anyway, went for a recce today after work just to see what is in store for me. Not incredibly crowded today, though the number increases exponentially. i think there will be more people tomorrow, and even more so over the weekend. One of my wishlist since HOship was to get a PDA, but didn't manage to fulfil it. Now that i have decided to take up some ECA* while i can, i think it is time i get one- so that i can obtain medical information from it whenever i want/in doubt.
*ECA: extra-curricular activities- what u do outside your curriculum.

Life after MOCC
MOCC came to an end last week. quite fast, in retrospect... though during the process i thought it was painfully long. These 4 months of spending time together has definitely set our vision in a different light and it is really an experience that I have gained and will remember, especially having been through a hiatus of 7 years of civilian life. I know some people better; I talk to people whom I probably have never talked to in my 5 years of tertiary education and 1.5 years in hospital; we see how people function in military; we see true colours; we bitched around and worked together hand in hand though the magnitude of assistance differs from individual to individual. hiakz, dunno when we will meet as a whole platoon again. difficult. almost impossible.
Come to think of it, we have really learnt quite a hell lot of stuff- from BCS, signals, navigation, lectures, directives, PT, FIBUA, field camps, mapex… dunno whether I will still remember them many years (or days) down the road. And kidos to all the instructors who make this possible.
ok.. so now we need to work for almost 2 yrs. My job is thought to be highly classified so i shan't mention it openly here heh... but i think i prefer to be in MOCC, or at least as a base MO. Doing staff job is definitely not my cup of tea, but as to whether it is worse than cheong sua, i can't really comment. Mental vs physical torture.
On call tomorrow =( (yes we do have calls in army, and there is no extra allowrance unfortunately. and no post call like in hospital).
