i declare the official launch of the CBRD aquarium on 29 August 2006 2 pm heheh =). After being dormant for quite some time since the arowana passed away leaving the guppy, the tiger barb and other dunno-what fish, we have decided to give the aquarium a new spring of life! We bought (from the usual shop we frequent) 10 tetra fish, 5 bigger tiger barbs, 5 luminous fish and 2 water plants. Quite nice, esp when the room is dark with only the uv light on. Too bad i dun have any photos to show.. wait till i get my chance..
i think i am going to contribute some deco stuff like seashells to the aquarium. and maybe if my interest lasts, i can get a aquarium for myself! but then i need to train someone to maintain for me haha.
Nowadays the office is quite peaceful, with EX MARLIN going on. at least there's how i feel.. less noise, less people, less movement. plus the fishtank! it is very conducive for whatever activities..=)
Post call today - probably one of the best DMSO calls ever, cos i have received no calls or smses or admission emails at all! somemore the dinner at cookhouse was a fried half-chicken! nice =) But the bad thing is i still need to go for a meeting @ DSO at 4pm...sigh.. heavy downpour somemore.
this time the rehearsal was at SSISEC aka suntec city. and as usual, it had to begin in the middle of the night. and i had to bring the scientist along cos he wanted to have a feel and idea what this deployment during IMF is all about, in view that we are going to use scentmate (the diagnostic kit developed by this group of scientists under him) in IMF. quite a grand exercise i must say.. even the minister dropped by to take a look.
We had a pseudo-farewell lunch for loi, who is probably one of the luckiest now cos he is going to ORD.. time really flies, it was about 6 months since i took over from my upper study (every 6 months there will be someone ORDing, cos the intake is on a 6-monthly basis). And in about a year's time, it will be my turn haha! Kind of long rite - one more IISS, one more NDP, more papers to write, more meetings to attend, more arrows to handle (and avoid) =( Anyway thanks dude, for the guidance and vulgarities these 6 months to me and my buddy =)
COMEX is coming - 31 Aug to 3 Sep. Think i should be popping by, probably on Sat nite and/or Sunday (last day) cos the rest of the days i am either on call or out in the sea. I wish to get a laptop which should be quite useful both at work and home.
* I saw a patient that day and she said she is teaching at RVHS. 2 years my senior; and she asked whether i am going for the 50th anniversary dinner or not.. hmm.. see how lah. i still remembered during my time they were celebrating 40th anniversary! anyway this was one of the songs which was quite famous during that time =p
yeah i got my worms world party from the auction! it's a rather old game, about 4 years ago but now i am addicted to it! very fun, esp if i win heheh. this shall be my post-lunch entertainment for now =)
tomorrow we will have new colleagues cos the 62MOCC has passed out and joined our ever-changing workgroup. and that will also mean that some of our old colleagues are going to ORD soon. envious siah... when will it be my turn soon? exactly 1 more year before my understudy appears. Can't wait for that day to happen.
Quote for the day: People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
Attended a Radiological Dispersal Device (RDD) Threat Reduction Workshop at Science Park from 14-17 August, jointly organised by DSTA and DTRA. Not too bad, can have a short break from office and work, but sianzz cos I still need to settle work-related stuff even when I am out of office =(. And I foresee piles of work coming up when I return to office tomorrow.
The workshop was quite cheem. It is a Singapore-US collaboration so there are quite a lot of experts from US who came over for the workshop too. Quite an eye-opener, but the talk tends to get too factual and well, I almost dozed off for some of them! There was an excursion to the Singapore Port too! Reminds me of those school days where we would visit those places of interest in groups heheh… And the visitors ask a lot of questions, unlike the Singapore culture when most will just keep quiet and clap after the presentation. Oh yah, a lot of food from Stamford catering services… not too bad =) hiakz I have a soft spot for food…
Watched “See no evil” @ Lido. Damn gross! This sicko kept digging out people’s eyes and killed people like nobody’s business. Full of gore yucks. Worth a scare that’s all. Quite short somemore 1 h 20 mins… lucky it was weekday so not too expensive heh =)
the more i listen to this song, the more i like, and the more patriotic i become. and i have changed my ringtone to HOME =)
i was watching the repeat telecast of NDP 2006 on tv. Missed the "live" cos i didn't manage to get the tickets and i was out on my birthday. well usually i will try not to miss NDP, cos somehow i adore the atmosphere created during ndp - the contingent, the choir, the F16 and parachutes, the fireworks, the performance, etc. unfortunately i have never had the chance to be there live as an audience. The closest i got was in 1995 when i was part of a performance in my secondary school. Till now i still kept the VCR which i had recorded haha.. dunno whether turned mouldy already or not..
^My Island Home^
This is my home She's everything to me Grace and beauty In all that you see
My island home Wherever I may be I never will forget her Nor will she forget me
And I will sing A song of home A land of peace Where dreams are born everyday My home Wherever I may be I believe You will always be a part of me
My island home Home of my family This is my future Where I want to be (This is my future This is my home)
My home Wherever I may be I believe You will always be a part of me A part of me
for those who love chicken rice, probably this may make u detest it.. well for a while.. personally i love it, esp the steamed one as compared to the roasted one. and esp if it is not thoroughly cooked with some blood-stains at the attachment areas of the meat to the bones.. yumm =) never tried this chatterbox one though.
a touching and intriguing piece of work. definitely worth 5 out of 5 stars! highly recommended, especially to those who view work and money as of utmost importance, this will surely make u more appreciative of life. Quite sniffy too, esp the part when the male character realised how he neglected his dad and when he himself "died" with his whole family around him. and of cos, not forgetting the pretty cast.
The sypnosis: Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) is married to the beautiful Donna (Kate Beckinsale) and they have two terrific kids, Ben (Joseph Castanon) and Samantha (Tatum McCann). But he doesn't get to see them much because he's putting in long, hard hours at his architectural firm in the elusive hope that his ungrateful boss (David Hasselhoff) will one day recognize his invaluable contribution and make him a partner. Once he's on easy street, he'll be able to lavish attention on the wife and kiddies. At least, that's what he tells himself.
After staying up all night to work, a tired Michael becomes frustrated because he can't even figure out which of his remotes will turn on the TV set. Michael sets out to find the perfect device to operate all his electronic equipment and stumbles into the back room of a Bed, Bath & Beyond, where an eccentric employee, Morty (Christopher Walken), gives him an experimental one-of-a-kind souped-up gadget guaranteed to change his life.
Morty wasn't kidding either. Soon Michael is master of his domain, turning on every appliance with the click of a button.
But the device has other, more startling functions. It can somehow muffle the barking of Sundance, the family dog — and even more astoundingly, fast forward through an annoying quarrel with his wife.
Michael is fascinated by his new toy and a little freaked out as well. He decides to pay another visit to Morty, the guy who sold him the mysterious device. Morty tells Michael he gave him exactly what he asked for — a universal remote that lets him control his universe. Right before Michael's astonished eyes, Morty demonstrates the device's mind-boggling advanced features, including a function that lets Michael travel back and forth through his life at different speeds.
Michael quickly becomes addicted to this new rush of power, which literally allows him to have his cake and eat it too. But before he knows it, the remote is programming him, rather than the other way around. And try as he might, a panicked Michael can't stop the device from deciding which events of his life he'll experience and which ones he'll miss. Only then does he begin to truly appreciate and embrace his life — the good, the bad and the ugly.
thanks to all those who wish me in one way or another, really appreciate that u remember =) my birthday wish.. well is almost the same every year, and of cos i won't publicise here lah, but to me it's the most important..
this week sux. on call on sunday (yesterday), on call on tuesday (tmr) and on standby on wednesday (ndp). dun even have the luxury to spend my birthday week in peace. sighz so sian. the worst birthday so far since i started working.. i remembered i had taken the whole week off during my birthday for the past 2 years. unfortunately this year cannot =(
next year i am definitely going to block the whole week off well in advance and dun expect me to come back for work. i am not even paid what i am worth!
yawnz so tired now.. my medic woke me up at 6.50am today, telling me that itz almost 7. first time got people woke me up (usually i will take my time, cos after all i just need to be ready for work at 8..)
that my boss came to our office. quite impromptu siah.. and to make things worse, i have already changed out of my uniform about to leave! well our boss doesn't work in the same office as us (he is in level 2; we are in level 4). and usually b4 he comes up to the office, his personal assistant will make a call up to our admin supervisor, who will then inform us so that we can make the necessary preparations like keeping all the contraband items (heh just kidding =p). anyway, it must be something urgent that makes him appear suddenly, meaning more arrows...
* my admin supervisor told me that an AOR (approval of requirement) needs to be written if i want to buy a calculator and laser pointer, cos we need to justify why we need these expensive items!?!? errrr.... anyway, i gave these reasons: calculator- need to calculate the budget accurately laser pointer- need for meetings and presentations
i din really follow through this programme, but managed to catch the finals yesterday. and the performance was impressive! especially like that part when the 4 final teams performed the song 小薇 in 4 different ways - rock, jazz, bossanova and r&b. they are really talented in their own ways, esp when most of them are quite young to begin with. the ultimate winner is 迷路兵, and they well-deserve it!
on call today =(... that's why i am up so early on a sunday morning...
i finally understand how army works after being in this business for 5 months. i used to complain and grumble earlier how so many issues were not settled and left hanging before i officially took over the job then. looking through some of those concept papers and doctrine, there were like some which were not tabled up to higher forums and hence they were never completed. I have directive number 1-8 yet officially, only number 1-6 were endorsed by CMC. i received emails from various people whom i dunno, asking some bills to be settled; asking some forms to be submitted which i knew nuts about.
now i realised why this is so. and i am actually doing it myself! cos when jobs come, they come in bulk. and it is impossible to complete everything at one go; so we prioritise. and after some time, the least important ones at that time (which may be important at other times)will eventually not be done at all. it gets forgotten by all till someone brought it up again.
yupz. currently i have a lot of things on my desk to be done, and i am constantly receiving new arrows, even from people i dunno. unfortunately i have only this much of time. and well, that's how life goes i guess.
well one of the arrows which i have received and i am glad it was finally over yesterday. from what i have heard, moh seems fairly interested in what we have got. whatever..
