after about 2 months of preparations and coordination, the change of command parade for the chief of med corps was finally over and everything went on smoothly. one job completed heh.. heard that some VIPs did not turn up as promised, but well as long as the guest-of-honour turns up and both incoming and outgoing chiefs are around, i dun think it will make too much of a difference.
hmm dunno how life's gonna to be with a new boss..
yanzi, as most people would have known by now, is leaving warner music to capitol. So like what most companies will do, they have come up with a compliation, which i believe is not out in the market yet. the last i heard was on 25 or 26 sep. a must-buy!!! heh.. although i think i should have most of the songs oredi. this is one of the new songs in the compliation, 雨天.
this is 我也很想他, live version. the song which i used to listen quite often when i was on-call in AH surgery. and i think it is still in the computer terminals in the MO room in my folder!
and for those who want to know more about her, this is quite nicely done. kinda touching in the later part..

had a gathering with cj, em, sr, xj and don yesterday as cj has just come back from lancer. had this porridge steamboat dinner along liang seah street which, well, seems overrated. anyway i was quite hungry then so anything is fine. quite narrow and crampy though cos we were sitting along the pavement! then look at some photos and had a sucky drink of peach margarita at long bar. tasted like cough syrup.
IMF has finally ended on 20 Sep 2006. the last day was a level 4 event so we need not standby on-site, which is good =), and it ended early! so overall, it was an uneventful standby and we are back to normal lifestyle again.
ended quite late yesterday cos there was a high key event in the evening.. only managed to stand down at around 11pm and reached back camp at around 11.30pm. decided to camp in my office since it's so late already, probably no point going home if i need to be in camp again the next morning. so what did i do? finished reading 2 mangas and "tuesdays with morrie". chatted with the force commander and fellow mo, watched DVDs, ate. nothing much eh...
and i've just received the good news that tomorrow we just need to stand by in camp only! so dun need to wake up early heheh =p
anyway on the whole it's quite an experience. and the boys are good, no cock-ups, showed initiative and fast in mock activation. i really have nothing to complain about.
i have learnt a few lessons over the week: 1) don't be too hardworking- if u don't have to be around at that particular time, then don't be seen around. you will only get more arrows, which means more work, which may and may not be under your scope to begin with.
2) don't be greedy- even though u pay $14 per month for the mess, it's better to be discrete than to be seen frequently in the mess. and if u really need to go, then go at unusual timing like 3 pm. and low and behold, u may be shot arrows when u are enjoying a cup of hot milo in the mess by your superiors! so not worth it for that 14 bucks. just assume that u are paying for the shield.
it was a long event yesterday cos there were 2 level 5 events going on (meaning the highest security needed) at Suntec and Istana (probably a dinner at Istana by the host)! only managed to scale down at 11pm and reached back camp at 11.30pm. So in the evening we had to move from Suntec to national stadium for standby. there were some sudden changes of plan here and there.. so confusing.. initially we (team 1) were supposed to standby in Mackenzie carpark in the evening, then we were told to scale down in nee soon, then latest info was to standby in national stadium! sighz.. i guess that's how ops works, ever-changing plans based on situations seen by higher grounds. but the standby at national stadium was really not bad- not that castrophobic, and more freedom to move around, and better food! buffet style, compared to our packed lunch in suntec =(
* the AOR for CMC COC was finally in progress for approval despite the fact that it is like 2 weeks away! i submitted my 7th draft last friday, signed by higher authorities and ready for submission to approving authority. Cost almost to 10K for a change-of-command ceremony!! though eventually we cut it down to 7K (which is still kind of steep for approval).
anyway, the point i wanted to make here is at the end of the day, my 7th draft ends up similar to my 1st draft! and i think this is the way it works, be it in the military or other organisations. After all the vetting and correction by different personnel of different hierarchy, there will be so many changes, till the last final highest chair's agreement. Which is why i always keep my older drafts of document and i sort of anticipated this anyway. but the giss is, why can't all relevant personnel sit down and vet/discuss everything together? well, may be difficult to gather, but if meetings can be arranged, i dun see why an hour's time can't be fished out. cos eventually, time will be wasted. my time.
2nd day of standby has ended..phew! i managed to finish my "5 people you meet in heaven", read "sensory", bleach, newspapers, my jmc paper and SMA magazine, listen to mp3, walked around at level 6 and 4, try to explore the way out but i still can't find! kinda complicated, and i am afraid that once i go out, it will be quite difficult to get back in (have to scan passes etc). so yah... it's kind of lobo. and work gets piled up in the office! itz not like running some medical centres where someone can cover you while u are away ;)
my first imf standby has finally ended (well not officially, cos we are still under 1 NTM -"notice to move", ie if anything happens, we are supposed to be called back to camp within 1 hour). And the time really dragsssss.. really need to find and bring more things there to keep myself busy. itz really sickening when u are in one place which u can't really do much, yet you know that work is piling up somewhere!
i had a glimpse of the emails i have received when i returned camp at 9pm today and i foresee quite a lot of work to be done oredi. Hiakzz. I was still comtemplating whether i should just stay in camp over the night since i need to be in office tomorrow anyway. but then again, after much serious consideration, i think otherwise. i still miss my bed heh.
* Superman (It's not easy) - Five for fighting
I can't stand to fly I'm not that naive I'm just out to find The better part of me
I'm more than a bird I'm more than a plane More than some pretty face beside a train
It's not easy to be me
Wish that I could cry Fall upon my knees Find a way to lie About a home I'll never see
It may sound absurd but don't be naive- Even Heroes have the right to bleed I may be disturbed but won't you concede? Even Heroes have the right to dream
It's not easy to be me
Up, up and away: away from me It's all right You can all sleep sound tonight I'm not crazy or anything
I can't stand to fly I'm not that naive Men weren't meant to ride With clouds between their knees
I'm only a man in a silly red sheet Digging for kryptonite on this one way street Only a man in a funny red sheet Looking for special things inside of me
my whole family is sick! with similar symptoms as me a week ago, though i was wondering how come they have delayed reaction. probably not related to mine, or unless i transmitted the bacteria to them via the fecal-oral route. compared to me, they have more vomiting than diarrhoea. sianz how the bug will go away soon.
IMF-WB starts tomorrow till 20 Sep and i will be stationed in suntec for the whole day and night.. not in the shopping malls, not in carrefour, not in eng wah, but at level 6 loading bay! i wondered how i am going to spend the whole day there.. reading alone can't kill my boredom. and i dun have laptop (should have bought one at comex- after seeing what aaron has.. though i figured that i may not have too much use of it for now, dun want it to end up like my PDA). maybe i will pop into the shopping malls once in a while.
and guess what, i think we have to report at 0530! how am i going to reach camp so early! and it will end at 2300 =(
sad...saw the news on a sec sch boy who was in remission for leukaemia after 1+ years of treatment and finally managed to return to school, but unfortunately met with a RTA and passed away yesterday. something stirs whenever i learn of such news, esp those young ones.. there is still so much to experience but it has to end prematurely. sighz sighz
was quite sick yesterday. had some fried oyster the night before and subsequently later that night, i felt some abdominal discomfort and had diarrhoea+++. and in the middle of the night, i had chills, rigors and fever. next day i had more diarrhoea and vomited. Quite a bad bout of gastroenteritis =( sighzz
