counting down.

i can't stand it anymore. i am usually quite tolerant about people and matters, and even if i really detest that person, it will usually be short-lived. but this time, it's really driving me nuts and pushing me to the limit. i can't wait for the month to end.

first, i am not there to entertain your mood swings or your post-menopausal symptoms.
second, no one can meet your unreasonable demands.
third, if everybody thinks the same way as me, then you are the one who is having a problem, not us.
fourth, no one can stand u nagging the whole day.
fifth, u can't always criticise the things that we haven't done and yet, take things that we have done for granted.
sixth, i dun think i benefit much at all. that's detrimental to my learning.
seventh, stay in the whole day and look at what we are doing. i dun even have time to do my own self-study.
eighth, i think a good leader should lead by example.
and finally, i have enough.
and i am counting down.

TGI not F!

and i am glad that finally it was over. a very busy friday indeed. first, i am on call that day (and that's enough to spoil my whole day - in fact my pre-call blues can start 1 day earlier). second, my HO is on leave. third, i am supposed to make a round in CDC2 on top of my usual ward round. fourth, i have a tutorial which i must go. fifth, i have a lot of discharges which meant that i have a lot of new admissions. sixth, my first new admission came immediately i had finished my CDC2 round when i haven't even done my ward changes. seventh, my new admission was very sick and, well eventually passed away 2 hours later.

but luckily, my fellow colleagues helped me out. thanks!!

my call itself was relatively good. probably the 2nd best so far since i started working in ttsh. Clocked a total of 6 admissions and the sickest came earlier part of the call. i like to have this manageable number of cases, so that i can actually sit down and think through the problems, or even read around it before i order my investigations.

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

A really fruitful day indeed cos we managed to visit ALL our essential relatives in one day! this never happened in my life before as far as i can remember - it is usually divided among the 2 days. well so here i am, feeling tired, sleepy, dry and sticky now after touring singapore.

Actually there are only 4 essential places to visit, cos my extended family is quite small; and we visit mainly the maternal side. my mum is the youngest so we had to be the one moving around. reason why we squeeze all visits to one day is because i have to work tomorrow (i am on call sadly..), and i am the chauffeur.

The day began quite late cos i woke up quite late at 10am - yup.. this is my only off day through this 4-day festive/weekend break, so i have to make full use of it - to wake up seeing the bright sunlight. furthermore i only slept at 5am yesterday.

1st place- first uncle.
kind of a bore. simply because there are only one couple in the house and i dun really have much to talk to them. my parents did the job of socialising, while me and my sister watched tv and ate titbits. everything seemed the same as last year, except that my uncle has developed poor mobility and is now on madopar. and his ang bao has shrunken, probably most of them went to his medical bills.

2nd place- third uncle.
i used to like coming here becos they have my favourite prawn crackers (not that i can't afford it, just that i dun buy it that often). the only problem is his wife is cantonese and most of the times, inevitably, she will start to communicate with me in cantonese, which, i can only reply by smiling and nodding, just like what i did to some of my patients. anyway, having said that, they are very hospitable and never failed to offer food (as in lunch/dinner)- which is great especially when it's hard to find food outside during cny. And as a bonus, we happened to meet my 2 (out of 3) cousins (their children who were married and came back to visit their parents).

3rd place- second uncle.
i like coming to this place cos it is always so bustling and homely. also, there are cousins who are closer to my age so there isn't any generation gap. but this time round i din manage to talk to them cos everyone is too busy playing with the new kids in the family. they are very hospitable too and we have dinner here. when it comes to food, i am usually not too modest when people offer, especially when i am fairly hungry. and all their children were around too!

4th place- aunt.
it was already dark when we reached the place. and come to think of it, i haven't visited my aunt for quite a while already. she stays in the city area, so it is quite difficult to avoid the crowd during festive season. We used to visit this place very regularly until dunno what happened.

so with that, i have collected most of my ang baos already.

the end of 3rd month..

my stint in this team has come to an end; tomorrow being the change-over date for the MOs. the month of january has been quite a fruitful and enjoyable month, and i am sure my fellow teammates will agree with me.

1. the workload is definitely manageable, despite that the list exploded towards the third week such that more than half of the ward comprises our patients (it is supposed to be a cardio-resp ward btw..). but towards the end, i have only 6 patients!

2. I have some time for self-study, regular sumptuous meals outside ttsh, and also attended most of my tutorials that i am supposed to attend.

3. We saw a variety of patients, other than those pneumonia/UTI/skin infections in the aged. it ranges from hemato conditions like thrombocytopenia, to endocrine cases like HHNK, addison's disease, to rheumato cases of rashes and more rashes, etc.

4. Our team is good. the consultant is very nice (though the rounds can be quite long) and we are able to discuss the cases during round. Other than the morning rounds, most of the times u are on your own - which is good and bad. good bcos i can be a bit garang and order things myself for new cases in the afternoon; bad bcos there is no fixed registrar in the team to back u up. my HO is good - fast, efficient, not dangerous.

5. It is an aircon ward heh!

sigh unfortunately, from tomorrow onwards (and for the whole of this month), life will change very drastically. Busy ward, extraordinary consultants, non-air con. though i really hope that despite all the bad comments, something good will come out of it.

*
oh yes, i am post-call today. my impromptu CDC2 call (impromptu becos i was called to cover someone 2 days b4 the call..) - and i actually have one new admission of query chikugunya fever. i think it is more like a URTI. but anyway the usual garang me ordered a hell lot of investigations!!
