rta

i saw a RTA on my way for a haircut today. i was walking along the pavement when i suddenly heard a loud bang and ahead of me, i saw a nissan pickup mounting up the grass patch and the road sign flying off the roadside. on the other side of the road, there was a stationary dark grey toyota wagon which was equally badly dented. It was still quite a distance from me, but i was one of the first few to reach the scene. there were other people around; a malay pillon rider couple, one or two passers-by. i didn't really witness the whole accident, but from what i heard later from the victim (the driver of the pickup), he was in the right of way when he was driving straight down the cross-junction when the light was green, whereas the other driver was trying to make a right turn.

anyway the pickup contained a family of 4 (including 2 kids), all sitting in the front. no one was seriously hurt; the girl complained of some abdominal pain, which i examined and it is likely a mild contusion; no hematoma or guarding. the rest were alright. anyway i left after deeming everyone is fine, and ask them to seek medical advice if more symptomatic..

they were still around when i came back from my haircut, but this time round, a traffic police was on-board.
of course, i made full use of my N95 to capture the accident.

this reminded me of my A and E posting as a student 4-5 years ago when i was attached to alexandra fire station/ambulance. we were activated to an accident scene along one expressway and the vehicle involved was also a pick-up/lorry which contained 4 passengers (father, mother, son and daughter)- same combi and all sat in the front passenger seats too! but this one was more serious; i remembered the father had a fractured femur and there were blood all over. i had to carry the boy who can't walk - probably from shock; and the mother had some bleeding too. so the lesson learnt is avoid letting your children sit in front of the pick-up or lorry without child safety seatbelts on.

Hyang-To-Gol

we had a department dinner yesterday (treat by the consultantof the ward!) to celebrate end-of-month posting.. while it is kind of early, but it is probably the only feasible day without people on call/post call/on leave, etc.

went to this korean restaurant at Amara Hotel at Tanjong Pagar, Hyang-To-Gol. we booked a private room (there were 8 of us) so it was quite cosy and i enjoyed the privacy. it is those traditional korean meal served with kimchi and some other side dishes as starters, followed by the main course - where u can order bbq pork, beef, pancake, etc. The beef is probably the signature dish, but unfortunately, being a devoted buddhist, i didn't eat it though the dark forces around me kept tempting me to. The hot kimchi soup was the next dish - something like seafood tom yam.

on the whole, it is well recommended. the food is tasty and the ambience is enduring. seems like having meal in a palace.

what the heck.

i hated this kind of feeling which i will have once in a while. when u feel damn irritable, when u refuse to talk to anybody, when u just want to go home and stay in your room and probably sleep through, when u dun feel like eating, when u have low mood. depression.

it is both depressing and peeving for me now. well basically, the roster planner who is in charge of planning which wards we are covering has decided to move me out of my current ward to cover some other wards as someone is going on leave. well that's actually perfectly fine, IF:

1) it was rostered and pre-planned right from the beginning of the month or preceding month - and i thought this should be so isn't it? people planned their leave early and was/should already be made known b4 the roster is out.

but no this wasn't the case.

2) the affected party (aka ME) is being told personally beforehand. but guess what, no emails were sent to me; no phonecall was made to me; in fact i have to find it out myself today when i checked the intranet incidentally.

3) the covering of other wards is made more realistic. but guess what, as if moving me to the other ward isn't shocking enough for me, i discovered that from next week onwards, i am supposed to cover ward X from 19 to 26 Nov; ward Y from 27 to 30 Nov; and ward Z from 1 to 4 Dec!!! imagine covering 4 different places within a month. what the heck! i am not a locum mo moving around covering people who are taking exams, giving birth, falling sick, going holiday, going conference, collapsing, dying, AWOLing etc.

and that already happened when i first entered this posting! i covered 2 different wards in 3 days. so guess what, i am going to cover 6 different teams within this month. bloody hell.

this has been a very unpleasant experience for me. i first chose this place to experience the working life here, but i think the choice is pretty obvious for now.

*

i have decided that i have 3 choices:
1) talk and complain about my displeasure to the roster planner.
2) email and complain about my displeasure to the roster planner.
3) email and complain about my displeasure to the roster planner, cc my clinical supervisor and cc the head of department

so which path should i take - bearing in mind the consequence that follows, and that i am a new MO who just joined the department for 2 weeks.

jay's on the run

this 8th album of jay was officially released on 2 Nov, and i manage to get the album recently and only manage to listen to it today. my first impression - other than the usual style of songs, it does give us some surprises, esp the first hit country-style 牛仔很忙. the lyrics damn funny and itz kinda cute. the second song that caught my attention is 我不配, which is supposedly to be a reflection of his life. enjoy the mv!

beez

had a movie yesterday with my fren- Bee Movie after my weekend ward round and after attending the NHG annual scientific meeting. sigh unfortunately i have to come for both weekends for the ward round this week.. but it's still quite manageable lah, and i dun really mind that much; at least it allows me to wake up earlier (and i know i will probably wake up at 12 noon if i dun need to work).

the NHG ASC - attended the endocrine presentation on inhaled insulin and hyperaldosteronism; the bag was quite presentable; i was late for the lunch so nothing much left; but the tea was nice and was very popular among the audience.

the movie - Quite some time since i have watched a movie; i dun even remember what it was. anyway, the bee movie's theme was quite simple - basically about personified bees trying to fight for their rights and the injustice against the use and abuse of their honey. the 4K digital screen was quite impressive though.

i survived!

finally my first call is over! and i managed to catch one hour of sleep (though i wished for more). and i still hate the aurora system of keying in the investigations ordered; it is sooooo slow. and i just realised yesterday that if we are to draw the blood ourselves and send to the lab, we have to click "collect" in the system, else it will remain in the system. this is so crappy. i still prefer the paper system where we just need to order and that's it. i dun see what added advantages do this aurora system has, if it only serves to impede progress of our work flow.

scared..

i can't take anymore photos now

of myself. cos i have grown 5 pimples! as i have written earlier, the number of pimples that i have is directly proportional to the stress level that i am in right now, and that's very true. the last time i have such experience (ie to have so many eruptions all of a sudden) was quite a while ago, probably during mocc days, when u have to mask your face with green and black camouflage.

contributing factors to the increase in stress level: lack of sleep, wake up early, prolonged standing, dumbfounded with profound questions, tons of work unaccomplished. contrary to me, my sis is going to have a week break (her pre-birthday annual leave) and that makes me very envious (although i have my fair share earlier..)

and weekend seems to end so fast; i haven't rested enough! i am so looking forward to deepavali for my one day break!

first week

finally i have worked for one week in ttsh.
still trying my best to adapt myself to the environment and systems there.
and i am glad that my audora is able to work now, though i still hate the idea of having to triplicate my work (i.e: write my orders in the casesheet; in the IMR and key in audora).
the good thing is - the phlebotomist will have to take most of the blood.
the bad thing is - the phlebotomist may miss out bloods to be taken, which gives us additional job to ensure that bloods are already taken. the phlebotomist can say "i can't take the blood cos difficult veins.." which i find quite ridiculous. or at least, if they think it is difficult, they should ask other phlebotomists for help rather than us. it is like a teacher who decides not to teach a class becos that's a difficult class to teach. hmm.

it has been quite an eventful week, in the sense that we moved around wards, covering different wards everyday and need to know different patients every day for the first few days becos we are out-of-phase (since we just come out from the army). sighz should have taken my first three days off so that i can be in-sync with the rest of the MOs.

hope my subsequent weeks can be better and more fruitful, and hope that i still have the energy to keep up with my knowledge.

will be having my first ever call this tuesday after two long years! wish me good luck!
